Water Pollution is the addition of harmful chemicals to natural water.

Examples of Water Pollution:
     -Oil Spills
     -Littering on beaches
-Industrial toxic filtered and dumped into water supply

6 major effects of water pollution are:
    -The food chain is damaged
-Disease can be spread via polluted water
    -Acid rain
-Pollutants in the water will alter the overall chemistry of the water
    -Marine food source are contaminated
-Altered water temperature (due to human actions) can kill the marine life

Ways to prevent water pollution:
   -Put trash into trashcans
-When not using water turn off
   -Avoid buying packaged water
-Re-use automobile oil as much as possible

The Roanoke River Basin is located in the northern part of North Carolina and is in Virginia too.

Domestic Pollutions:
Nutrient
Bacteria
Mercury
Storm water

Ways to prevent domestic pollution:
Upgrade sewage treatment plants
Projects to stop storm water

Agricultural Pollutions:
Runoff
Pesticide
Herbicide
Sedimentation

Ways to prevent agricultural pollutions:
Make sure that the soil is enough to where the water will not flood.
Clean out pesticides after using them to farm

Industrial Pollutions:
Polluted storm water runoff from factories

Ways to prevent industrial pollutions:
Try not to use the factories as much

Environment Pollutants:
Runoff
Sediment
Fish(Bass and Carp)

Ways to Prevent environmental pollutants:
Don't fish as much as you have
Don't throw trash and other things into the river to pollute the streams and rivers
